One of my very favorite projects is always our end-of-the-year wrap-up. It’s wonderful to go back through the weddings our studio photographed throughout the year, and I love publishing some of our personal favorites. However, this year has been different. Instead of being full of anticipation and joy, it has brought our sweet clients more than their fair share of heartache, anxiety, and disappointment.

To be honest, it’s been difficult for us as well. Our team loves photographing weddings and we spend hours upon hours working with each client in the months leading up to their wedding – so much so that we often find ourselves emotionally invested in our clients as humans, as well as the subjects of our photography. It has been draining and heart-wrenching seeing so much sadness unfold. Last minute cancellations, unplanned postponements, illnesses, anger at those who want to forge ahead with their plans despite it all, and judgment from those who don’t – where wedding planning is usually (mostly) fun, this year it has been HARD. So hard, in fact, that I considered skipping our annual “best of” blogs altogether.

But then I remember the moments of joy. The intimate elopement for the couple who couldn’t wait and decided that marrying one another than waiting on their big celebration. The big wedding that moved forward anyway, with custom facemasks provided and extra spacing between tables. The gorgeous destination wedding that shrunk from 150 guests to only 10, but maintained the same luxury and service for the smaller group. The laughter. The happy tears. The sigh of relief, and the sense of community. And truly, if ever there was a year that deserved a “best of” series, it is 2020.

We are so incredibly grateful to all of our 2020 clients (and those of you who were 2020 clients and had postponed until 2021 – we see you and can’t wait for better days coming).
