This has been an AMAZING spring wedding season; it’s been packed full of the absolute loveliest brides and funniest grooms and nicest bridesmaids and best bands! Seriously, I have photographed a wedding every weekend since March but it was the most enjoyable string of weddings I remember (and I LOVE photographing weddings, so that’s saying a lot!). Lauren and Matt’s wedding closed out my spring season (see you soon summer!), and it was such an incredible way to end an amazing series of events.
Lauren and Matt are both naval officers, and I loved the subtle ways the military shaped their wedding choices. There were sweet and quiet nautical details throughout the reception, and the cornflower blue bridesmaids’ dresses complemented Matt’s dress whites. I’m always a sucker for a sword arch, and their took place on their way out of the church, creating a gorgeous scene in front of historic Old Christ Church.
There was really beauty everywhere, but there was also humor. Lauren and Matt laughed, their guests laughed, and I laughed the day away. One of my favorite things was the way Matt’s groomsmen “iced” him throughout the day. Don’t know what that means? It’s a game that consists of elaborately hiding Smirnoff Ices in funny places where the “victim” is sure to find them; when you unexpectedly encounter the drink, you (obviously) must immediately drink the whole thing. This happened throughout the day to poor Matt (sneaky groomsmen!), but my very favorite time was during the garter toss. Lauren strapped a Smirnoff Ice to her leg, right under her garter, so Matt got a hilarious surprise in front of his entire wedding reception (the picture is here in the blog, of course).
