What made the wedding venue special?
Jake and Tania’s hometown, backyard wedding reception took place under a beautiful, sailcloth tent on a private estate in Fairhope, Alabama. While enjoying the party, their guests enjoyed a stunning view overlooking the lake. There were graceful live oaks throughout the fields, and the golden sunlight made everything feel magical. The tent was arranged just next to the barn, which was a large and beautiful building dripping with white jasmine, all in bloom and making the evening smell amazing.
What emotions were apparent on the wedding day?
More than anything else, there was gratitude. Jake and Tania were surrounded by family, and it was so touching to witness how much their family members loved and honored them. Everything was unique to Tania and Jake, from the gorgeous naked wedding cake (baked by a cousin!), to the tropical arrangements (styled by Tania and her family!), to Tania’s wedding gown (which was a combination of two different wedding gowns, sewn together, and then with a brand new back that Tania herself added!).
What was the couple’s session like?
Just before sunset, we stepped away from their lakeside reception to take advantage of the beautiful light streaming through the trees, and it was magical. We tramped through meadows, accidentally stepped in ant beds, gasped at the beauty of our surroundings, and had a generally wonderful time – and the photos are so romantic! Kendall (our very own AKW wedding videographer!) was capturing the day on film, and I absolutely love working with her. We have worked together for so long that we easily and gracefully take turns posing and leading the couple, and some of my favorite shots were set up by Kendall (and vice versa). What a treat!
